In the Morganstern universe, **Light** and **Darkness** are not moral alignments. They are States of Energy.
## The Light (Expansion / Manifestation)
The energy that builds things. It is the **Heir** side of the Claspect — heavy, physical, bright.

- **Cost of overuse:** Physical Burn — internal scarring, high fevers
## The Darkness (Contraction / Consumption)
The energy that breaks things down. It is the **Witch** side of the Claspect — cold, weightless, silent.

- Powers inversion and removal
- **Cost of overuse:** The Hollow — emotional numbness and physical wasting
## Neither Is Evil
Using Light to burn yourself out is just as dangerous as using Darkness to hollow yourself out. The choice is not moral. It is structural.
Abby's Witch power (the Knell) pulls heavily from Darkness — she overrides another person's Heart (a Light/Expansion force) by consuming it into contraction. The vacuum this creates in her own spirit is the source of her Ethical Erosion. She is not evil for using it. She is paying the structural cost.
This is the distinction that the setting insists on: **power is a debt, not a sin.**
