The Main Six
Abigail "Abby" Chapman
Born March 2007 (Pisces). Heir of Hearts / Witch of Knells. The Siren — Abby commands will through acoustic resonance, synchronizing her voice with a target's emotional pulse to compel obedience, or tolling the heart into silence entirely.
Charlotte Finnegan
Born Jan 1, 2006, just after the year turned. Birth name: Szarlota Mészáros; adopted by the Finnegans. Capricorn Sun, Taurus Moon, Capricorn Rising. Heir of Keys / Witch of Chains. Boon of Movement, Hex of Denial. The team's pathfinder — she unlocks spatial barriers and tears shortcuts through the Inter Eos, and inverts that access to trap enemies in looping, repeating pockets of space.
Evander "Eva" Murray
Born Mar 17, 2006 — twin of Asher Murray (Asher older by moments, Asher deceased Jul 2014). Heir of Mirrors / Witch of Masks. Boon of Deduction, Hex of Duality. A living record of everything she has ever touched — Eva reads the history of objects through contact, and inverts that reflection to absorb the powers of magical beings or the life-force of mundane beings through touch.
Jet Mehtala
Born ~2009. Fourteen at story start (2023) — a freshman and recent transfer to Shepherd House from Bellevue. Daughter of a highly successful Finnish plastic surgeon. Trans. Heir of Candles / Witch of Chalices. Boon of Illumination, Hex of Obscurity. The team's backline/ranged support with an exorcist edge: she lights targets for precision and banishes darkness by force of guided light.
Maria Reed
Born Nov 12, 2007. Birth name: Juliana Reed. Scorpio Sun, Virgo Moon, Scorpio Rising. Heir of Veils / Witch of Shrouds. Boon of Deceiving, Hex of Evading. The infiltrator — Maria doesn't just turn invisible, she erases her detectability and can invert that absence into a suffocating sensory void.
Thomasin
Born May 4, 2007. First of two Fletcher children and older sister to Georgie. Heir of Iron / Witch of Blood. Boon of Confronting, Hex of Overpowering. One of the six — a frontliner and breaker who turns damage endured into damage returned.
Supporting Cast
Odette Hale
Twin of Ophelia Hale, born Nov 6, 1932. Founder of Luna Obscura. The BBEG. Attended and graduated from the Shepherd House (1957), briefly joined the Sidereal Council (~1960), then was banished (~1962) for attempting to merge soul to body in an effort to reincarnate her hate — breaking the Council's most sacred law. Resurfaced ~1980 as headmistress of Artemis Hall in Bellevue. One of only two beings who know the full scope of what Heirs are.
Aeon
An entity and familiar — a continuous concept made manifest. Bound to a young master through massive works of perverted magic around 1957. True loyalties unknown to all but himself.
Asher Murray
Born Mar 17, 2006 — Eva's twin brother, older by mere moments. Drowned in a tragic accident in July 2014, age 8. Eva bore witness. His death is a defining wound in Eva's early life and in the Murray family as a whole.
Charming Shepherd
The other half of the Boston marriage. Fled New England with her own dowry and Gentle's inheritance; together they built one of Seattle's most prominent institutions. Suffragette. Disappeared with Gentle in 1934.
Elya Eldor
Daughter of Isseya Eldor, Archmage of the Pacific Order of the Sidereal Council, and heir to the Eldor clan. Being groomed to take her father's seat. Headstrong, clever, something of a firebrand — she holds no grudge against Eric Murray for breaking their arranged binding contract. She has her own agenda.
Gentle Shepherd
One half of the Boston marriage that founded the Shepherd House. A suffragette and figure of Seattle high society in the early twentieth century. Arrived in Seattle 1910; disappeared with Charming under mysterious circumstances in 1934.
Graeme Murray
Eric Murray's father. Had a twin who was killed during World War I — the first confirmed instance of the Murray twin curse in the modern timeline. His loss echoes across three subsequent generations of the paternal line.
Isseya Eldor
Archmage of the Pacific Order of the Sidereal Council and head of the Eldor clan. Has held the seat since 1945 — he was in power before Odette Hale ever enrolled at Shepherd House and has watched her entire arc unfold. Now in his final phase of authority, slowly transitioning the seat to his daughter Elya. His 78+ years at the head of the Pacific Order by story start (2023) make him an institution unto himself.
Mallory
Born into the Blood (became a vampire) in 1924, on the grounds of the newly rebuilt Shepherd House. One of the earliest documented Blood turnings in the modern Seattle magical record.
Ophelia Hale
Twin sister of Odette Hale, born Nov 6, 1932. Attended the Shepherd House alongside Odette. Disappeared into the Third Dominion (Spirit World) at an unknown point. Presumed dead — a presumption confirmed by degrees as more is learned about what Odette became.
Rachel
Arrived in Seattle in 1922, during or immediately after the original Shepherd House fire. Her connection to the school and the events of that summer is unclear.
Rhys Murray
Graeme Murray's twin brother. Killed during World War I. The first known victim of the twin curse on the Murray paternal line.
Arthur Murray
Eric Murray's twin brother — born first. His umbilical cord was wrapped around Eric's neck in utero; Eric technically died and was resuscitated. Both Arthur and Eric survived; this generation is an anomaly in the Clan Murray Curse's otherwise unbroken pattern. A gay man, proud of it. Was disowned by his mother Anne Murray when he refused to marry a woman and produce heirs; the schism between them is permanent.
Eric Murray
Born ~1965. Eva's father; twin of Arthur Murray (Arthur born first; Eric technically died in utero — his umbilical cord was wrapped around his own neck — and was resuscitated). Homo Magi — magical on both sides. Empathic transmission: can project and receive emotional states at close range. Legacy member of the Sidereal Council; the Murray family's connection spans generations. Abandoned his arranged match with Elya Eldor — daughter of Archmage Isseya Eldor — and eloped with Vera, causing a lasting schism in Council politics.
Farris Tasker
Heir of Needles / Witch of Mauls. Member of the Shades of Light (Team One) at the Shepherd House.
George Alan Harvelle
Born Mar 5, 1946. One of Jules Harvelle's two dads. A boomer-aged trans man who did not transition until Jules was in middle school. Married Jaquar Harvelle ~1987.
Georgie Fletcher
Born ~2006. Thomasin's sibling; the last of Thomas Fletcher's children. Seventeen at the story's start in 2023.
Hazel Murray
Born 2000. Eva and Thora's older brother (he/him). First of the Murray children. Homo Magi — from a Homo Magi family on both sides, Council-adjacent by birth. Magic-aware but not an Heir. Acts as a foil between the teenagers and the adults in Eva's home life.
Heather
A side character connected to Maria's deep lore. Met Maria around 2014. Disappeared under mysterious circumstances before the story begins in 2023. Maria Reed was the last person to see her.
Jaquar Harvelle
George Alan Harvelle's husband and Jules Harvelle's other dad. Married George Alan ~1987.
Jules Harvelle
Born ~1979. Attended the Shepherd House as part of the Transmutations Era cohort. Married Thomas Fletcher in June 1997. Thomasin's parent.
Magdala Mekonnen
Heir of Beacons / Witch of Ruins. Long-range artillery and siege specialist of the Shepherd House Titans — she marks targets with magical Light signatures that cut through any cover, then brings structural entropy to everything in her sightline.
Simon Velarde-Calderon
Headmaster of the Shepherd House School in Seattle.
Sybil Morrow
Heir of Sickles / Witch of Thorns. Member of the Shades of Light (Team One) at the Shepherd House.
Thomas Fletcher
Married Jules Harvelle in June 1997. Father of Thomasin Fletcher and Georgie Fletcher.
Thora Murray
Born 2012. The youngest Murray child — Eva's little sister. Eleven at the story's start in 2023.
Vera Murray
Eva's mother. Homo Magi — from a long line of Faroese hedge witches (Faroe Islands), a tradition distinct from and looked down upon by the Sidereal Council's formal hierarchy. Met Eric Murray by chance in a Cardiff coffee shop ~1987 while he was in his final year at Merriam Academy. They eloped, displacing Eric's arranged match with the Council's Archmage — an act that caused a lasting schism in Council politics. The Murray marriage begins to fracture ~2014–2015.
Viola Walker
Born Oct 25, 1965. Attended the Shepherd House beginning ~1979. Lost her powers in ~1983 following a confrontation with an unknown adversary. Later became a lawyer — a key figure helping the troubled youth of King and Pierce County.
