The Blood

In the Morganstern setting, vampirism is referred to as **The Blood** — and those who carry it are said to have been *born into* it. The phrasing is intentional: becoming one of the Blood is not simply infection or curse, but a transformation understood as a kind of violent second birth.
## What It Means to Be Born Into the Blood
"Born into the Blood" denotes the moment of turning — the threshold event through which a person enters the vampiric condition. The language of birth, rather than death or infection, signals something about how the magical world understands vampirism: it is a new state of being, not the end of the previous one.
The specifics of what changes — physiologically, magically, and in relation to the Dominions — vary by lineage and circumstance. Not all Blood turnings are identical.
## Mallory
The earliest documented Blood turning in the modern Seattle magical record. Mallory was born into the Blood in 1924, on the grounds of the newly rebuilt Shepherd House — making the school's history and the history of the Blood in this region entangled from almost the beginning.
What drew the turning to the Shepherd House grounds, and whether it was incidental or intentional, is not recorded.
## The Blood and the Dominions
The relationship between the Blood and the Spiral's Dominions is understudied in the formal magical literature. Practitioners of the Blood are not catalogued by the Sidereal Council in the same way as Heirs or Witches. What they *are* in terms of Dominion access and energy alignment is an open question.
