Homo Magi

**Homo Magi** is the term used in the Morganstern setting for humans with an intrinsic, hereditary magical capacity — distinct from the Heir phenomenon, which is something categorically different and not yet fully understood even by the Sidereal Council. ## Hereditary Magic Homo Magi inherit their magical capacity from their bloodline. On a strong lineage, both parents carry the trait; the resulting children are reliably magical in some form. On a weaker or mixed lineage, the capacity may skip generations or manifest unevenly. This is not the same as being an Heir or a Witch in the Claspect sense. Homo Magi magic is older, quieter, and in many ways more mundane — it is the background radiation of a magical bloodline, not the concentrated phenomenon of a Claspect. ## The Murray Family The Murray family is a clear example. Eric Murray comes from a multi-generational magical line with deep ties to the Sidereal Council — a legacy house in the Council's terms. Vera Murray carries a different lineage: Faroese hedge witch tradition from the Faroe Islands, matrilineal and entirely outside the Council's formal hierarchy. Both parents are Homo Magi. Their children — Hazel, Eva, Thora, and the late Asher — are Homo Magi by birth. Hazel is magic-aware and operates within the Homo Magi world as his parents do. Eva and Thora are something else on top of that; the Heir phenomenon is a separate layer that sits above (or beneath, depending on the framework) the Homo Magi baseline. ## The Council's View The Sidereal Council recognizes Homo Magi lineages and maintains records of legacy houses. It does not, however, have a complete or accurate theory of the Heir phenomenon — which exceeds anything the Council's formal frameworks can account for. ## Relationship to the Mundane World Most Homo Magi live in the Waking Dominion alongside non-magical humans, navigating both worlds with varying degrees of integration. The Council discourages overt magical activity in mundane contexts, consistent with the broader project of keeping the Dominions' existence from becoming common knowledge.
